The Cavell Van is Restored

The Cavell Van is a railway carriage that conveyed the remains of the Unknown Warrior to London on 10 November 1920. Over the past year the Kent and East Sussex Railway have been restoring it in time for the 90th anniversary of this event, and they are bang on schedule. The dedication ceremony will take place this Wednesday on the eve of Remembrance Day in Tenterden, Kent. It was hoped that this could have taken place at Victoria Station in the capital to properly re-entact its original journey, but unfortunately, expense and red tape have prevented this. The carriage will be on view to the public from 10th to 14th November at Tenterden.

The Cavell Van is so-named because it had previously also carried the remains of war heroine Edith Cavell, who had been executed by Germany in 1915.
