Anyone wishing to join me on an official, unofficial London Historians unguided walk this Sunday, please email or call 07980 623 750. I shall position myself outside Banqueting House at 10:00, sporting my golf cap (temporarily) and trusty Doc Martens (black).
I propose to take in Westminster and the City from 10:00 – 17:00, stop for quick lunch as and when, then maybe have a few jars afterwards. We’ll keep the format very flexible, but here is a suggested shortlist of sites, hugely unlikely we can do all of them in the time:
Westminster
Banqueting House* (free entry, normally £9)
Benjamin Franklin House
Apsley House (Wellington’s London residence)
Old Admiralty Buildings
Foreign Office
Marlborough House
City of London
Dr Johnson’s House
Wren Churches Tour (1.5 hours)
Bank of England
Apothecaries’ Hall
I have the official event brochure, so we can easily change and choose on the hoof. The Open House London website is here.
* Banqueting House. I have never been inside this building. I made two attempts earlier in the year during their regular opening times and on both occasions it was shut. I suppose they do use it for official and corporate entertainment purposes at which times the rest of us have to lump it. Therefore, always check ahead before attempting this elusive site.
