Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769 – 1830)

I mentioned the Georgian portrait artist Thomas Lawrence recently in the piece about Apsley House. Historically, Lawrence has lived in the shadow of his mentor Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Gainsborough and others. One hopes that his reputation will grow with the forthcoming exhibition of fifty-four of his paintings at the National Portrait Gallery. Thomas Lawrence: Regency Power and Brilliance runs from 21 October 2010 – 23 January 2011.
