Military Times
Postie managed to force a hefty brown envelope through the letter box last Friday. Within were two copies of a new glossy magazine called Military Times. Now, military history is not everybody’s cup of tea, but I am certainly partial to cup of Earl Grey, as readers well know.
Military Times is very slick and well designed. The feature articles are suitably in-depth and richly illustrated with photos, diagrams, maps, &c. In addition there are plenty of listings, reviews, reader offers and monthly columns, essential for dedicated military history buffs and handy for the casual historian too.
Is it Londony enough for me to be writing about? Well, November issue includes two excellent articles: Guy Fawkes and the Jacobean War on Terror and How Londoners Beat the Blitz. I see also on their website articles on: the Battle of Turnham Green (something I was planning to write about myself but probably now won’t bother!), Blitz and the Battle of London, The Diehards: The 57th (West Middlesex) Regiment of Foot. So yes, plenty there for the London historian.
Military Times costs £3.95 or you can subscribe for £29.95 (12 issues).
